The Arden Patter
mixed media assemblage
turkey leg, "patter" with instructions, lens, rack of sample teeth.
by Dale Copeland
"Ten minutes of rhythmic patting each day will keep the lines and wrinkles away." Yeah.
I made this monument to change and decay in 2000
Since then it has suffered its own transition.
I took it to Australia for an exhibition, and it had to go through the strict Customs controls because of the dry old turkey leg.
They called it "fumigation" but really they zapped it with gamma rays!
Gamma rays turn glass dark purple, AND they change the plastic that false teeth are made of from ivory coloured to a deep dark puce!!!!!
I was devastated at the time, but now I quite like the change.
Here's a small pic of what it used to look like.
