Philosophy of the Found

With my gratitude to Creative New Zealand for their assistance.

A handbound book by Dale Copeland - limited edition of 100

Leather bound, with flyleaves of either handmade harakeke (NZ flax) paper, or paper handmade and handprinted in Nepal.
Each with small treasures embedded in the cover. See the books below.
Now all gone.

The book was written over New Zealand's lockdown, and the 100 books were sewn & bound over 14 weeks until 1st September 2020,
to coincide with the opening of the assemblage exhibition Philosophy of the Found
by Carl Fairweather and Dale Copeland, both of New Zealand, and Robert Villamagna of West Virginia, USA.

Philosophy of the found - the exhibition, the books, and the party!
This has all been such a big venture, I decided to put together one big book to record the events.

The online exhibition, images of each of the 100 books and where they have ended up (except for the last few to go) AND the party!
Every exhibition should have an opening, every new book should have a launch,
and in this year of isolation, we all need to feel that we are connected.
So around the world, we celebrated.

Artists, art lovers, book lovers ...
they each emailed me a photo of themselves celebrating with one of the books if they had one,
or perhaps alongside a screen showing the online exhibition, no matter where in the world they lived.
Exciting times, together.

The book is now in the collection of Puke Ariki, our fine museum.

Silly me.
So engrossed with the binding and the covers, I didn't give you any indication of what's inside!
80 pages, full colour, over 100 of my artworks ... mostly assemblage, some collage. And the associated description, rant, blather.
Call it what you will - my thoughts.
Here are 3 snapshots from inside the book:

And, for those who asked, these page images enlarge so the text is legible.      And, just for a laugh, working conditions at the Puniho Press.
Mask not for a virus but for the glue smell.
