Philosophy of the Found

With my gratitude to Creative New Zealand for their assistance.

A handbound book by Dale Copeland

Limited edition of 100.
Leather bound, with flyleaves of either handmade harakeke (NZ flax) paper, or paper handmade and handprinted in Nepal.
Each with small treasures embedded in the cover. See the books below.
Price, including postage, is NZ$350 or US$220, or €200, or £180 - that includes postage to those different countries.

The book was written over New Zealand's lockdown, And sewn & bound over 14 weeks until 1st September 2020.
to coincide with the opening of the exhibition of assemblages Philosophy of the Found
by Carl Fairweather and Dale Copeland, both of New Zealand.

AND, from November, by Robert Villamagna of West Virginia, USA.
Robert was originally going to share the exhibition with Dale Copeland, but became very ill with covid-19.
So Carl Fairweather filled the gap beautifully.
Robert recovered, and he sent his assemblage works to join Dale and Carl.
So the full exhibition will now be online until the end of December.

Philosophy of the found - the exhibition, the books, and the party!
This has all been such a big venture, I decided to put together one big book to record the events.

The online exhibition, the edition of 100 books and where they have ended up, AND the party!

Every exhibition should have an opening, every new book should have a launch,
and in this year of isolation, we all need to feel that we are connected.
So around the world, we are celebrating.

From September through to December 2020. Artists, art lovers, book lovers ...
they are each emailing me a photo of themselves celebrating,
with one of the books if they have one, perhaps alongside the online exhibition,
perhaps with their own surrounds, no matter where in the world they are.
Exciting times, together.

When finished, the large book will be donated to Puke Ariki, our museum.

Silly me.
So engrossed with the binding and the covers, I didn't give you any indication of what's inside!
80 pages, full colour, over 100 of my artworks ... mostly assemblage, some collage. And the associated description, rant, blather.
Call it what you will - my thoughts.
Here are 3 snapshots from inside the book:

And, for those who asked, these page images enlarge so the text is legible.      And, just for a laugh, working conditions at the Puniho Press.
Mask not for a virus but for the glue smell.

Dale's studio can be found on Surf Highway, Taranaki, New Zealand

Her art work can be seen on her own site at dalecopeland.co.nz
