In Edith Piaf's song No Regrets (my favourite) there's the line
avec mes souvenirs, j'ai allumé le feu
(with my souvenirs I have lit the fire)
I've burned a lot of things I'd kept for ages ... didn't want them seen or sorted.
But a few, a small few, I kept.
A number plate I found in Bulgaria, a painting/print/play by Paul,
a few words I set under wrinkled glass so they're not easy to read, but impossible to forget.
Coins with memories ...from Paris, from Korea, from Bulgaria
and at the bottom, a lovely thing ... memory. A computer chip, more beautiful than most.
All served up on a tea-tray.
