Memories/Histories
assemblage of found objects
wooden doll, coral, brass letter, dry beetle my uncle brought back from the war, tin for shaving gear ... also back from the war.
Book spines & hand-painted flyleaves, the detritus that can never quite be thrown away
by Dale Copeland, 2009
Private collection
Friends and relations give me the things that they can never quite throw away:
their fathers brought them back in their kitbags and kept them as though they mattered.
Is that all that history is, the bits pieced together from memories & souvenirs?
