Man Alone
mixed media assemblage
wooden figure, apple on glass rod, music boxes, in old tool box
by Dale Copeland, 2007
$850

Paul stuck the bowler hat on the wooden figure and it looked so like those Magritte images.
He seemed to want to be by that hanging apple, alone. A singular man. Recently widowed? Or the shy man seeking love?
He's got everything the books suggest .... flowers, careful dress, even the Visa card ready in the sky. But faceless, too reserved, too shy, too feeling.

I've been playing with music boxes a lot, loving their sad nostalgia.
These two play the Beatles songs "Yesterday" and "Let it be". Acceptance and Regret. And if you wind them both together it sounds like life ... a chaotic mix with occasional touches of coherence.
