Kindheit
mixed media assemblage
old pencil case, bone, badge, crucifix, barbed wire
by Dale Copeland, 2009
Collection of Elisabeth Holmes, NJ, USA
I asked Elisabeth the German word for "childhood".
Kindheit.
Thoughts left from her childhood in southern Germany.
Her pencil case, like a shrine. To a Champion.
The broken crucifix and the Communion Remembrance are for all of us who've left our upbringing, and the bit of barbed wire is for those of us who can't leave it all.
Dale's studio can be found on Surf Highway, Taranaki, New Zealand
More of her work can be seen on the Virtual TART site at http://virtual.tart.co.nz/Dale
