I think of this one as "LAND AND", partly because the L is half-obscured by the rake, but mostly because it goes on. Land wars, reconciliations, agreements, sales and treaties .... the land goes on.
The old land agency sign looked as though it had advertised several things before, layers half flaked away revealing their past. Hanging from the rake, caught up by an unfinished piece of taaniko (Maori weaving, but here an ersatz version in string instead of harakeke fibres) are fragments of old land deeds.
